The loop still loops

The loop stays a loop.
Open the animated Pin and copy its link from Share.

PinSaver detects a GIF from the file the Pin publishes.

Pick the animated GIF, or the MP4 version if it is listed.
A GIF on Pinterest is easy to watch and awkward to keep. Screenshots freeze a single frame. The share sheet does not always hand you the animated file. PinSaver reads the public Pin and, when the original is a GIF, offers that GIF first so the loop still plays after you download it.
Pinterest sometimes also publishes an MP4 of the same animation. That file is smaller and easier to drop into a slide or a message that does not like GIF. When it exists, it shows up as another quality option next to the GIF. You choose. PinSaver does not convert one into the other on its own, and it does not re-encode the GIF.
The same rules apply as for video and images. The Pin has to be public. A pin.it link or a pinterest.com/pin link both work, including links with a text slug before the id. Boards, profiles and search pages are turned away with a short explanation. There is no sign-up.
On a phone, GIFs sometimes land in Files rather than Photos, because the camera roll is picky about animation. That is a property of the phone, not a failed download. The file still plays in a browser or in Files. The how-to page covers the iOS share sheet if you want the clip in an album and an MP4 is available.
Use a downloaded GIF the way you would use any other file you do not own. Personal reference is the point of this tool. Reposting the loop, or using it in a product, needs the creator's permission. Watermarks and captions that are part of the animation stay in the file.
If the result says no media was found, check that you copied the Pin and not the board it lives on. A stale short link is the other common cause. Open the Pin, copy a new link, and paste that. Private Pins are not fetched, even if you are logged in on the same browser.

Use the video version if a GIF is awkward to share.

A screenshot does that. Download the GIF option, not a screen capture. If Photos will not import it, keep the file in Files, where it still animates.
Pick GIF when you need the animated image format. Pick MP4 when you want a video file with the same motion, if Pinterest published one.
No. Only Pins that are already GIFs, or that include a GIF file, are offered as GIF. Other videos stay MP4.
